The Element: CO2
CO2 is a natural element found in the earth's atmosphere and is a part of nature's basic life cycle —we breathe it out and plants breathe it in, in turn releasing oxygen into the air. It is non-toxic and non-flammable and, in fact, actually acts as a type of shield against flame and flammable vapors. Although its original state is a gas, it can be turned into a liquid solvent by placing it under high pressure. Often recognized as a major greenhouse gas, CO2 becomes a beneficial element through our cleaning process in which it is used in both its gaseous and liquid form and is recycled but not produced.
Our Process
We use specialized machines to perform the CO2 cleaning process, making us the only dry cleaner in Central Virginia able to offer CO2 cleaning. The process is simple: We place clothes in one of our CO2 machines, empty the machine of air, and then inject both gaseous and liquid CO2 into the machine. Clothes are cycled in the CO2 mixture at room temperature for 15 minutes, dissolving stains, dirt, fat, and oil on the clothing. Once a cycle is finished, the liquid CO2 is pumped back into a storage tank and the gaseous CO2 is released back into the air where it came from. The final result: safe, soft, clean clothes with a professional wrinkle-free look!
